The Big Idea: Sex was God’s idea. He created you a sexual being and wants the very best for you!

Here’s where we’re going in this message on Sex in a Broken World:

  • God  sex,
  • God  sex,
  • God  sexual boundaries.

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

--Genesis 1:27–28 (NLT)

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”

--Genesis 2:24-25

Three Purposes why God Created Sex:

Purpose 1: For  - the expression of marital love.

“Oh, how beautiful you are! How pleasing, my love, how full of delights! You are slender like a palm tree, and your breasts are like its clusters of fruit. I said, “I will climb the palm tree and take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like grape clusters, and the fragrance of your breath like apples.”

--Song of Solomon 7:6–8 (NLT)

“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. Many waters cannot quench love, nor can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned.”

--Song of Solomon 8:6–7 (NLT)

“You are beautiful, my darling, beautiful beyond words. Your eyes are like doves behind your veil. Your hair falls in waves, like a flock of goats winding down the slopes of Gilead. Your teeth are as white as sheep, recently shorn and freshly washed. Your smile is flawless, each tooth matched with its twin.”

--Song of Solomon 4:1–2 (NLT)

Purpose 2: For  - the enjoyment of physical pleasure.

“Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love.”

--Proverbs 5:18–19 (NLT)

Purpose 3: For  - the extension of the human race.

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

--Genesis 1:28 (NLT)

  • God redeemed our sexuality in Jesus.

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

--John 10:10 (NLT)

“And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain…”

--Genesis 4:1 (ASV)

“But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God— there never has been, and there never will be.”

--Isaiah 43:10 (NLT)

  • God established sexual boundaries for our good.

What does love require of you?

“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.”

--1 Corinthians 13:1-2 (NLT)
