Day 6- Uncover My Sins

"Pray for God to show you the sins that need to be addressed and changed, and to soften your heart to prayerfully consider the things that loved ones have suggested and called out in you."

August 06, 2022

Today as we get close to wrapping up our week of, “SEARCH ME,” I want to draw our attention back to Psalm 139. Verse 24 says “See if there is any offensive way in me…” God, show me the things that I do, the behaviors that I have adopted, that offend You. I know I’m not the only one who has become a master at rationalizing and explaining away my behavior. It’s always someone else’s fault. Some external issue made me behave that way. I had no other choice. It’s just the way I was made…

Proverbs 12:15 “The way of a fool seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” Has a loved one, or someone in authority over you, mentioned an area of your life, or a habit or behavior or relationship, that might not be healthy for you and suggested that it needs to change? How did you respond to that? I know for myself, I can be quick to get defensive. I spin the same cycle of rationalizing and defending my behavior.

Now, I’m not saying that we should go to lengths to change ourselves based on every comment that people have made about us or our behavior. We can’t please everyone, and different people have very different ideas about how we should live our lives. But, I would implore you, if something has been mentioned by a close and trusted friend, especially by MULTIPLE friends; Would you consider at least praying about it? When a piece of advice really strikes a nerve and causes something to jump in your emotions, take a moment and pray. “God, is there wisdom in what they are saying? Is this something that I need to change and address?”
Pray for God to show you the sins that need to be addressed and changed, and to soften your heart to prayerfully consider the things that loved ones have suggested and called out in you. “See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalms 139:24)
