Heavy Topics
This series examines six tough topics that people inside and outside the church often think about, even if we don’t ask about them out loud! These are hard questions without easy answers, but Scripture helps us navigate them with wisdom, grace, and intelligence.
Q+R
We're excited to introduce a new Q&R (Questions & Responses) segment that will follow each sermon in our Sunday worship service during the Heavy Topics series. This interactive time is designed to address the most pressing questions you have about the topics we explore together. The Q&R will take place shortly after the Sunday service, and is available exclusively for those attending in person at our main Turning Point campus. We encourage you to participate by submitting your questions in advance—simply click on the relevant topic tabs to share what's on your heart and mind. This is a wonderful opportunity to dive deeper into God's Word and engage with the teaching in a meaningful way.

Entanglements of Allegiances - June 22
Navigating Competing Loyalties in Faith and Life
This sermon explores the tension between our primary allegiance to Christ and the various secondary loyalties that compete for our hearts - nationalism, political parties, cultural identities, and ideological movements. We'll examine how Jesus calls us to hold these earthly allegiances lightly while maintaining our citizenship in God's kingdom. The discussion will address how to love our country, engage politically, and participate in culture without allowing these good things to become ultimate things that compromise our witness.

Women & Ministry - June 29
Gender, Calling, and Church Leadership
This sensitive topic examines varying biblical interpretations regarding women's roles in church leadership and ministry. We'll explore complementarian and egalitarian perspectives with grace and humility, acknowledging faithful Christians hold different views on ordination, preaching, and spiritual authority. The focus will be on understanding Scripture's teaching about gender, spiritual gifts, and how the church can honor both men and women while maintaining biblical fidelity.

Sexuality (Transgenderism) - July 6
Identity, Biblical Sexuality, and Pastoral Care
Perhaps our most challenging conversation will address questions of gender identity and transgender experience through a lens of biblical truth and pastoral compassion. We'll explore what Scripture teaches about human identity, the nature of gender, and God's design for sexuality, while also considering how to love and minister to those experiencing gender dysphoria. The goal is faithful theological reflection paired with Christ-like compassion for all people made in God's image.

Miracles & Science - July 13
Faith and Reason in God's Created Order
We'll wrestle with questions about supernatural intervention in a scientific age: How do we understand biblical miracles in light of natural laws? Can faith and scientific inquiry coexist harmoniously? This conversation will explore different Christian perspectives on evolution, healing, prayer, and God's ongoing activity in creation. Rather than forcing false choices between faith and science, we'll seek to understand how both reveal aspects of God's truth and character.

Racism - July 20
Confronting Prejudice and Pursuing Racial Reconciliation
This session addresses the persistent reality of racial prejudice and discrimination within society and, sadly, sometimes within the church itself. We'll examine Scripture's clear teaching about the equal dignity of all people created in God's image, the sin of partiality, and our call to pursue justice and mercy across racial lines. The conversation will explore both systemic issues and personal heart attitudes, discussing how the gospel compels us toward genuine racial reconciliation and the formation of a truly diverse beloved community.

Immigration - July 27
Biblical Hospitality and the Stranger Among Us
We'll explore the complex intersection of biblical principles and immigration policy, examining Scripture's consistent call to welcome the stranger and care for the sojourner. This discussion will address questions about national sovereignty, border security, and legal processes while maintaining focus on the biblical mandate to show hospitality to foreigners. We'll consider how individual Christians and churches can embody Christ's love toward immigrants and refugees, regardless of their legal status, while respecting the rule of law.
